David Lammy is hosting a public meeting alongside the Ladder Community Safety Partnership and HarringayOnline, to discuss some of the major issues in and around Harringay. Many of these issues - such as the expansion of gambling establishments, planning/enforcement concerns, and traffic congestion are well known, and the community has a long history of campaigning with David and local Councillors to resolve them. However, David felt it was important to host an event that allowed people to come together and discuss them in greater detail, while offering residents the opportunity to meet him, and each other face-to-face. David added: “More and more, locally and nationally, I am talking about the importance of a new kind of politics. “A politics of engagement, discussion and dialogue that creates strong movements of citizens, politicians and others all working together to solve our shared problems. As well as engaging people in my advice surgeries, responding to letters and talking to people online. I felt there was a renewed place for the traditional public meeting. “As a local resident myself, I have spoken to many friends and neighbours who have deep concerns about a number of key issues in Harringay and St Ann’s wards. Including the problems created by the increasing number of gambling establishments operating on Green Lanes, issues with planning and enforcement - as well as the question of illegal Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs). “It is also clear that there are significant traffic issues (particularly around Sainsbury’s and the Arena Shopping complex) that we need to work together to resolve. “I know the Council, many local residents and Councillors have already done a great deal, but I wanted to be able to discuss these important issues with as many other residents as possible, and I hope that many people will be able to attend.” The event is open to all, and will consist of a brief introduction from David Lammy before a themed Q and A session. It will take place on Thursday, 12th Feb 7:30pm at the Greek Orthodox Church Hall, Wightman Road.
