David said on Radio 4 this afternoon to "let the inquiry take its course" before decisions would be made about the roles of those involved in the case. He also called for the media to be aware of the tone used discussing Haringey, to be aware of the implications on both social workers and those children in care in the borough. "What I'm worried about is when the media spotlight turns away from what is one of the poorest and most deprived constituencies it is possible that social workers will not want to work in Haringey and children will be very vulnerable indeed. "The Baby P case raises serious questions about what has happened in social services in relation to that case. "Over the course of the weekend 61 headteachers that have more experience than you or I, or Lynne Featherstone, have offered their reassurance that they feel Haringey has been protecting children. "The children service in Haringey did fail to protect that child - we do have to get perspective on the realities of child protection issues in places like Haringey. "Once the inquiry is complete, if there are systematic failures then heads will have to roll, but that has to take its course in a measured way." To listen to the programme in full please click here.
