Letter to the Education Secretary on school funding cuts

On Wednesday (22nd March) I wrote to the Secretary of State for Education to oppose cuts in school funding that will see schools in Tottenham lose 8% of their budgets - equivalent to around £15 million - by 2020. This equates to over £600 less money per pupil, or the salaries of around 500 teachers.

It is shocking that a Government claiming to be committed to social mobility is pushing through cuts to school funding that will do so much damage to the life chances of young people, particularly disadvantaged young people living in deprived areas. I will continue to oppose these cuts both inside and outside of Parliament.

I recently held a public meeting in Tottenham on this issue and will be speaking in a debate in Parliament on school funding in London on Wednesday 29th March.
