BBC Charter debate

Yesterday (18th October) I spoke in Parliament in the debate on the BBC Charter. Earlier this year I led a campaign calling on the BBC to do more to promote diversity and equality of opportunity for minority and disadvantaged groups (including BAME individuals, LGBT individuals, those with disabilities and those from low income backgrounds), resulting in changes to the BBC Charter and a new 'Public Purpose' committing the BBC to representing and reflecting the diversity of our country both on-screen and off-screen.

It is now time for action and I will continue to campaign for equal opportunities in broadcasting and the media. I didn't have time to say everything that I wanted to say, so I have posted my speech in full on Facebook.

You can read the debate and my contribution in Hansard.
