I attended the public bill committee on the Riot Compensation Bill to ensure those affected by the riots receive the best requital for their damages. I put forward the removal of a 'compensation cap' in order to make it possible for claimants to receive over £1million in compensation. Furthermore I pushed to ensure previous money received by claimants via emergency or recovery funds, doesn't reduce the compensation a claimant may receive. Finally, due to the logistical difficulties of making a claim for many people that have just suffered a traumatic event, I also argued for a longer time period - 132 days - from the end of the riot for someone to make a claim. As the bill moves forward I will continue to fight to ensure that victims get the best deal possible.
