Housing benefit cuts and women's refuges
According to Women's Aid housing benefit cuts will see 67% of women's refuges close and 87% scale down the support they offer.
Refuges save lives. If these cuts go through and so many women's refuges close their doors then the Government will be responsible if more women are injured or killed by abusive partners and more families are damaged by domestic violence.
I have written to Ministers at the Department for Work and Pensions and at the Department for Communities and Local Government today (6th September) calling on the Government to exempt women's refuges from the cuts.
