Tomorrow the Immigration Bill will return to the House of Commons. I will be voting in favour of an amendment to the Bill added by Labour peer Lord Dubs, which would commit the Government to taking in 3,000 lone child refugees who are currently stranded in Europe.
Lord Dubs was himself rescued from near-certain death at the hands of the Nazis by the Kindertransport programme, and I am proud to be supporting this amendment.
These children are stranded on the streets of European cities - vulnerable and at serious risk of exploitation and abuse. It is our moral duty to offer them protection and safe passage, in keeping with our nation's proud history of helping the most vulnerable.
