The Times interview

Today The Times published a further interview in which I discussed my independent review into evidence of racial bias within the criminal justice system: Rooting out racism from criminal justice.

I told The Times that: “There’s been a lot of attention on stop and search, in the Met particularly, but far less attention downstream from that, once the prosecutor picks up the case.

I will leave no stone unturned for this root-and-branch review, which will scrutinise every stage of the criminal justice system. We know that guilty defendants from ethnic minority backgrounds are more likely to face prison sentences at the end of court cases — it’s my job to find out why.
