State Pension Age Increase

I voted in support of the motion by Mhairi Black MP calling for transitional arrangements for women negatively affected by equalisation of the State Pension Age. Legislation passed by the previous Coalition Government accelerated the rise in the State Pension Age for women. As a result, women born in 1951 have been left with only a few years to find alternative sources of income, make other arrangements or otherwise receive undue hardship or disruption to their retirement plans. I emphasised in the debate that the failure of the government to adequately inform those affected is set to cause this group of women significant stress and hardship. The government should work to mitigate the real threat of stress-related illnesses, meaning the urgent need for such transitional arrangements.
