On Wednesday 9th December, I attended a Labour fundraiser in Dagenham with my friend and colleague Jon Cruddas MP, to discuss why Labour lost the general election and how we rebuild.
It was fantastic to see so many Dagenham Labour members join us, especially as many were familiar faces having supported my London Mayoral campaign. After thanking them for such support, we looked to future campaigns, including Ivana Bartoletti’s upcoming bid for the Havering & Redbridge seat as a GLA candidate. I wish her the best of luck in that venture and I am sure she will do well.
Following Jon’s fine words on how the local members were able to retain Dagenham’s Labour seat, I addressed the idea that, at the election, Labour had failed to offer a strong alternative to the electorate. We recognised that in moving forward we must rebuild the party together in order to secure strong future prospects for our great party. If divided, we fall, if we are able to find consensus and common ground then we can build and reach such a point that we restore the electorate’s faith in our party.
I would like to once again thank Jon and his team for inviting me to speak at such an enjoyable fundraising event.
