Justice for students at the Supreme Court

On 24 June I joined students from all over London, including Tottenham, to call on the Supreme Court to defend the right to an education for university students in Britain with discretionary leave to remain. In 2012, the government made these children ineligible for student loans, and allowed universities to charge them international fees. That change meant young people who have lived here most of their lives and attended British schools are faced with sometimes insurmountable fees if they want to go to university. The regulation took no account of the fact that many of these student come from families that work and pay taxes.
