TOTTENHAM MP David Lammy has been named as one of the top ten most influential Members of Parliament on social networking site Twitter.

The study shows that Mr Lammy has rallied up more than 2,400 followers who subscribe to his profile to get live updates on what the minister is doing and thinking, also known as 'micro-blogging'.

On June 30, Mr Lammy tweeted to his followers: "Hoping that it isn’t as hot as it is now on Sunday when I am running the Run for Moore 5k in Blackheath".

But Tweets range from the light-hearted to the more serious, with the minister for higher education also engaging in debates on policy with fellow Tweeters.

Mr Lammy is not the only politician from the borough who is getting in on the new Internet phenomenon which Hornsey and Wood Green MP has an impressive 1,527 followers.

Haringey Councillors including Matt Cooke, representing Bounds Green, Joe Goldberg, representing Seven Sisters, and Carolyn Baker, representing Harringay, all have active Twitter profiles. You can also find the Haringey Independent on Twitter, too, at http://twitter.com/Haringey_Indy
