Bicentenary of the Parliamentary Abolition of the Slave Trade.
This page is designed to be a useful resource containing information about the commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of the Parliamentary Abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade during 2007.

It focuses on MP for Tottenham and Culture Minister David Lammy's involvement in the commemorations.

"We have an opportunity this year to get the country talking, learning, understanding and taking more of an interest, irrespective of age, ethnicity or class, at local, national and international levels, in how modern Britain was built.

It is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the memory of those, enslaved and free, who spoke out, fought back, marched, rebelled, petitioned, boycotted, and ultimately prevailed. This year can only be the beginning of that process – it must continue into 2008, 2009 and so on – and I hope to see this subject given the prominence it deserves in our history books."
David Lammy MP and Minister for Culture, March 2007.
