Today, David Lammy and local St Ann's Councillors Brian Haley, Nilgun Canver and Bob Harris held a roving surgery in St Ann's Ward near Chesnuts Park.
Earlier in the week David wrote to over 500 local residents inviting them to put a poster up in their window if they wanted him to call with their local Councillors.
During the morning they called on many local residents to discuss a variety of issues including: dumped rubbish, international development, arts funding, anti-social behaviour, policing, benefits, health policy and the environment.
Walking around Ida Road - David and the team met several local residents concerned about the drains and talked to tenants about the issue of ball games on the estate. They also spoke to people about security and how they will try and ensure that there was more for local young people to do safely.
David said: "Organising regular roving surgeries where I can talk to local residents, in their homes, about what matters to them is a vital part of the job. What has been most interesting about this morning has been the sheer range of issues that came up on the doorstep - from parking to polyclinics everyone has a view.”
At one small Housing Association block local Councillors Nilgun Canver and Bob Harris were shocked to see the amount of dumped rubbish around the bin shed and an abandoned car – a resident said there had been problems for months. They pledged to work with David Lammy to ensure that the Housing Association met their obligations to sort these problems out and manage the block properly to the benefit of all local residents.
David added: "Working together as a team with local Councillors and activists we can all achieve more than if we only looked at these issues alone. I look forward to campaigning to solve these local problems and will keep residents updated on our progress."
