Fighting for the Post Office at 434 West Green Road.
Saturday, 08 March 2008

Last Friday, David Lammy MP joined local residents in campaigning to save one of the post offices on West Green Road.

This followed the announcement last month of plans by the Post Office to close the Post Office at 434 West Green Road as part of its London Area Plan. Residents and businesses now have until 2nd April to oppose the closure before it takes effect in the summer.

Across the board David Lammy MP, Joanne McCartney AM, and West Green Councillors Toni Mallet, Rahman Khan and Eddie Griffith are campaigning against this decision On Thursday the Councillors where out with local activists on West Green talking local residents about how damaging this closure would be and distributing posters and petitions.

It was clear from everyone they spoke to that local residents and businesses were totally opposed to current plans. Everyone was especially worried about the detrimental effect this closure could have on vulnerable people. Alongside them they have the support of local residents associations, Haringey Council, and London Mayor Ken Livingstone - who has already threatened to take legal action because of the length of consultation period.
