Last night at Middle Temple Hall, David addressed an audience of celebrities (introduced by Ben Fogle) and donors to Ovarian Cancer Action to launch their Love Women appeal.

Love Women is about raising awareness of the risks of ovarian cancer in women. It asks everyone to encourage the women they love in their lives – mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, friends and girlfriends – to take the time to listen to their bodies, be aware of frequent and persistent symptoms and report them to their GP.

Ovarian Cancer Action hopes that by being more aware of frequent and persistent symptoms, women who have ovarian cancer will receive treatment sooner.

David said:

“Ovarian cancer kills 12 women every day in the UK – that’s 4,500 women annually. It is the fourth most common cancer affecting women in Britain behind breast, lung and bowel cancers. The UK has one of the highest incidences of ovarian cancer in Europe. Yet a woman’s chances of surviving ovarian cancer are low (around thirty per cent), and the UK has one of the worst survival rates in the Western world. Indeed, the recent Eurocare study put England at the bottom of the European table for survival rates for ovarian cancer. Most worryingly, these survival rates have changed little in over 20 years.

“I am so pleased that we were able to raise an incredible £280,000. This money is vital in Ovarian Cancer Action’s fight to raise awareness of ovarian cancer through research and robust evidence.”
