David Leads campaign against Post Office Closures.
Wednesday, 10 March 2004

The Post Office have advised that their consultation period - open until March 2004 will look into branches on Lordship Lane, Park Lane, Philip Lane and Gorleston Road.

David Lammy has expressed concern that the ‘consultation’ is a front for pre-determined closures by the Post Office.

In recent weeks David has met with both the Head of the Post Office Consultation Team and the regulator Postwatch to voice his concerns and to make his opposition to the closures clear. David has also met with Haringey Council and Local Councillors in Tottenham to urge them to join the campaign. In addition he has written to the Deputy Prime Minister to make him aware of how important this issue is.

Following on from the demonstration held outside Gorleston Road Post Office which David attended on 14th February 2004, he also attended the ‘Save Our Post Offices!’ demonstration called by Haringey Federation of Residents Associations on Saturday 6th March 2004. The consultation period has now ended and we await a response from the Post Office on their decision.
