| David Lammy MP attends the start of the Concrete Batching Plant Inquiry. |
| Tuesday, 13 December 2005 |
David Lammy today joined local politicians and the concerned residents of Haringey at the Civic Centre in Wood Green to oppose plans to build a Concrete Batching Plant at Cranford Way. He wanted to be there at the start of the Planning Inspector’s Inquiry into London Concrete’s Appeal, which was made against Haringey Council’s rejection of their inappropriate plans to build a concrete plant in Stroud Green.
Commenting outside the inquiry David Lammy MP emphasised: “I wanted to be here today - at the start of this inquiry - not only to represent my constituents, but also to join all the people of Haringey in opposing this plant. It is wonderful to see residents from every walk of life, every community and from every political party and none - coming together to oppose the congestion, pollution, noise, disruption and damage to our quality of life that this plant would bring.”
The Planning Inquiry will be running from the 13th of December to 16th December and 10/11th January 10am – 5pm and will also include an evening session on Wednesday 14th at 7.30pm. If you wish to speak as a resident of Haringey you will need to go to the Civic Centre and register your request. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that the Planning Inspector will be able to allocate you a fixed time slot, however, he has indicated that he wants to allow as many people as possible the opportunity to speak.
At the start of the inquiry the Inspector indicated he was likely to call residents to speak during the January sessions, and would be allowing people to register again then, even if they did not have a chance to do so in December. Even if you do not wish to speak, the Appeal is taking place in public, and it is important to fill the public gallery every day to show the community’s support to all those that are speaking on our behalf.
David Lammy says: “This inquiry will be the last chance for Haringey residents to express their opposition to London Concrete’s misjudged plans. From the start of my opposition I have always believed it is important to have as many members of our community as possible involved in the campaign. It is now time for everyone in Haringey, opposed to this plant, to make their opposition known by attending the inquiry.”
Haringey Council should be able to provide you with any further information you may need about the day to day running of the inquiry, they can be reached on 020 8489 0000
