| Lammy visits boys2MEN mentoring project |
| Thursday, 10 February 2005 |
David Lammy recently visited the Kilburn-based boys2MEN project in an effort to gauge the provision of support and mentoring for young black men and boys nationally.
The project seeks to empower disaffected and disadvantaged young men to realise their role and responsibility to themselves, their family and their communities. By engendering self-esteem and individual responsibility, boys, young people and fathers/parents are supported to reach their grasp, rediscover themselves and re-connect to their potential.
The project has anger management courses, a fathers’ inclusion programme, mentoring support, as well as courses to develop boys’ self esteem. Project Manager, Melvyn Davis adopts a holistic approach to his work with boys, young men and fathers to realise their full potential.
David Lammy said:
“boys2MEN is an excellent project, targeting some of our most hard to reach and disillusioned young people. Melvyn and his team are a dedicated set of individuals who get admirable results from the men and boys they work with. I hope that this sort of initiative will be adopted throughout the country."
