David Lammy MP today called for a ‘meaningful consultation’ on the recent Post Office proposals to close 4 branches in Tottenham.
The Post Office have advised that their consultation period- open until March 2004 will look into branches on Lordship Lane, Park Lane, Philip Lane and Gorleston Road.
David Lammy has expressed concern that the ‘consultation’ is a front for pre-determined closures by the Post Office. He said;
‘I am very concerned by these proposals and the impact they will have on Tottenham. I call on all residents to get involved in this issue and make the Post Office management listen to the people of Tottenham and our views on these closures. In recent consultations in Dundee and Bolton all proposed closures were made despite representations from local people and it is clear therefore that the Post Office must make a commitment to ensure a meaningful consultation.
I grew up using the Post Office on Philip Lane and it will be sad to see it closed. I have also received correspondence from constituents concerning the closure of Gorleston Road- which for some reason has already closed. Local papers have also reported concerns from the Postmaster at Lordship Lane and I hope the whole community can get involved and try to save our local offices.’ David Lammy encouraged all residents to make their feelings known on this issue and write to George Hooper Head of Area, Post Office Ltd, c/o National Consultation Team, PO Box 2060, Watford WD18 8ZW.
