Remploy Factory welcomes David Lammy MP

Thursday, 21 January 2010

Tottenham MP David Lammy today visited Remploy’s North London Factory to discuss recent developments at the site and present a long service award.

The factory, on Hermitage Road, employs 28 local people with a range of disabilities, and specialises in electro-mechanical and packaging work. It recently became a pilot site for Remploy’s new ‘Social Enterprise’ initiative, under which five factories focus on building commercial opportunities with local businesses and organisations.

During his visit, the MP presented a long service award to Mary Agyemang, who has worked at the factory for 20 years. Many of the staff are currently working to improve their literacy, numeracy and IT skills at the local City and Islington College.  Mr Lammy also tested some of the products being produced.

Factory manager Jenni Headlam said ‘I was delighted to welcome Mr Lammy to talk about the changes we are making to create a long-term future for the factory. We hope to work with businesses and other organisations across North London to highlight the high quality service we can offer right here in the local community’.

Mr Lammy commented ‘I was delighted to present Mary with her long service award and I am proud that Social Enterprise initiatives like this one are taking place in my constituency.”
