This morning, David Cameron (the Prime Minister) visited Tottenham to meet with the families and business owners who were affected by the riots of Saturday 6th August 2011. He met with David Lammy (MP for Tottenham) and Claire Kober (leader of Haringey Council) to tour the Council’s Assistance Centre at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre before heading to Tottenham Fire Station to meet the emergency services who responded to Saturday’s events and the residents and business owners who lost their homes and livelihoods as a result. The visit comes after the Prime Minister accepted an invitation from David Lammy during his statement to Parliament last Thursday: “I am pleased the Prime Minister came to Tottenham to see the suffering and hear the anger of local people first hand. “I know there will have been plenty for him to consider on his way back to Downing Street. The residents, businesses and emergency services who met him were very clear about the concerns they had before that Saturday night and since and I fully expect him to address those issues. “I have made it clear that I want to work with the government to secure the investment and the support that Tottenham residents and businesses will need to get back on their feet. I know that the Prime Minister was moved by what he heard today and I call on him to grant us the support that we so desperately need.”
