Yesterday, 16th February 2010, David visited the Young Advisors - This project aims to develop the capacity of people aged 15-21 so that they can act as ambassadors for young people, engaging with a wide range of service providers to ensure that their views and aspirations are taken in to account.
Young Advisors are trained and employed consultants who guide local authorities, housing associations and other local partners about what it is like for a young person to live, work, learn and play in their neighbourhood. Once the young people have completed the training they are paid £8 per hour
The Young Advisors Integration Programme (YAIP) is a follow on project from the Bridge NDC Young Advisors project of the last financial year 2008/09. The concept of the Young Advisors is being mainstreamed through Haringey Council as a result of all the good work previously pioneered by the NDC Young Advisors.
15 young people are currently going through an interview process which lasts the duration of February half term. David spoke at the meeting and offered some words of encouragement for a programme he thought could really make a difference to the lives of some young people in Tottenham.
