Last Friday, 22 January, David Lammy visited Ferry Lane Primary School in Tottenham Hale for the launch of “Stay and Play” – a new play group based at the school.

The play group runs twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, and is designed to ensure that all young children can make a good start to their development, and to give parents skills to engage children and support their learning from a young age.

It is aimed at parents and carers with children under the age of 5, where the children can enjoy a wide variety of games and activities, and the parents have an opportunity to get to know other families.

At the launch, David Lammy was treated to a dance recital and several musical performances, before speaking briefly about how the importance of this stage in a child’s life.

David Lammy said:

“Having two children of my own, I understand  how important these years of a child’s life are. It is a great way for children under 5 to become familiar with the school environment, and for the parents to meet and become familiar with the teachers at Ferry Lane Primary.”

The Head teacher of Ferry Lane Primary School, Maxine Pattison said:

“This is an exciting opportunity for parents to come in and acquire the important skills that will aid their child’s development, as well as having the chance to meet other parents and children from across the whole community.”
