David Lammy backs community plan for Ward’s Corner

In light of the upcoming planning committee, David Lammy has written to Cllr. Claire Kober, leader of Haringey Council, to ask her to be open to all parties wanting to develop the Ward’s Corner site in South Tottenham.

The site has been the subject to various development proposals for the past seven years, including the demolition of the building that once housed an Edwardian department store. A proposal put forward by the developer Grainger is currently is to be considered by Haringey Council later this month. David is asking for the council to consider the proposals put forward by the Ward’s Corner Coalition who wish to keep the existing structure of the site.

In his letter, David Lammy said:

“I have been concerned for some time about the problem of blight in this area of Tottenham. I am keen to see a development which avoids this problem, while retaining the support of the community.”

“A decision must be made openly and transparently, allowing all interested parties the opportunity to make their views known. As such, I am calling on Haringey Council to allow the alternative plans for Ward’s Corner developed by the coalition of parties to be heard and considered in the Planning Committee.”

“I have seen the coalition’s proposals and they appear to be interesting, well-designed and respectful of the area’s heritage. They will, I’m sure, be supported by many members of the community.”
