Last month, David visited "The Workshop" in the Seven Sisters Area of Tottenham where they run a very high-quality short course in fashion design. This provides young people with the practical tools they need to launch into a career, not just in fashion, but in any of the creative arts.
They also provide jobs in the production side of the workshop, underpinning much of the rag trade that North London is famous for. Moreover, many high-street clothes shops employ their services for the production of their clothing lines.
In the heart of Tottenham, they provide training for our young adults, and also make a significant contribution to our local economy. To do both in such a tough economic climate is truly commendable, as they are clearly an example of how a successful, profitable business can be run whilst providing services and training that benefits the surrounding community.
